Dartmouth works with eligible students using VA education benefits, including the GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program.
Your School Certifying Official (SCO) is responsible for certifying your enrollment with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Questions about your individual eligibility for VA benefits should be directed to the VA.

Yellow Ribbon and Financial Aid
Veteran education benefits and Dartmouth financial aid can interact in ways that are specific to the individual student. The Financial Aid Office maintains current information about veteran benefits and financial aid.

Military-Affiliated Students Using Family Member Benefits
Some undergraduate students may be eligible to use VA education benefits based on a parent or spouse’s military service.
This can include:
- Chapter 33 – Post-9/11 GI Bill transferred benefits
- Chapter 35 – Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA)
If you are using military education benefits through a family member, you will work with Dartmouth’s Office of the Registrar for enrollment certification and with Financial Aid for questions about how those benefits interact with your Dartmouth financial aid.
VA payments do not always arrive on the same timeline as Dartmouth's billing cycle. Veteran students should review their account regularly and contact Campus Billing with questions about pending VA payments, balances, or payment arrangements.

The Office of Military and Veteran Support works closely with the Undergraduate Deans Office. If you're unsure whether to start with your dean or with our office, either is a good place to begin.
Academic Skills Center
The Academic Skills Center offers resources and coaching related to studying, time management, learning strategies, academic success, and navigating Dartmouth's academic environment.
Veteran students may have housing needs that differ from those of traditional-age undergraduate students.
Dartmouth's Residential Life team manages undergraduate housing and should be your primary resource for housing applications, assignments, interim housing, and current housing policies.
When relevant, veteran students can provide information about their circumstances and nontraditional student status as part of the housing process.
Bringing a partner, spouse, children, or dependents? Undergraduate veterans may apply for graduate housing at Sachem Village.

Interim and Term Housing
Veterans who need housing between terms or have circumstances related to military obligations should review current Residential Life information and communicate directly with Housing as early as possible.
Housing Accommodations
Students seeking disability-related housing accommodations should work with Student Accessibility Services.
Student Accessibility Services (SAS) works with students who experience disability-related barriers and can help determine whether accommodations or other accessibility resources may be appropriate.
Veterans with service-connected injuries or conditions are welcome to contact SAS, including those who aren't sure whether their circumstances qualify for accommodations. The existing veteran guidance specifically encourages wounded warriors and veterans with questions to begin with SAS.

SAS also supports accessibility needs related to academics, housing, dining, transportation, and other areas of the Dartmouth experience.
Military service develops skills and experiences that can be valuable across a wide range of careers. Dartmouth's Center for Career Design can help veteran students translate military experience, explore career paths, prepare resumes and interviews, build professional networks, and identify internships and employment opportunities.

Meghan Brandow is a point of connection within the Center for Career Design for veteran students.
Students who continue to serve while enrolled at Dartmouth may need to balance academic responsibilities with drill, Annual Training, military schools, deployments, or other military obligations.
If a military obligation may affect your coursework or enrollment:
- Communicate with your faculty and undergraduate dean as early as possible.
- Provide documentation when appropriate.
- Contact the Office of Military & Veteran Support if you need help navigating an academic conflict, understanding Dartmouth’s military leave policies, or identifying your options.
Time Away for Military Service
Students whose military service requires an extended absence from Dartmouth may be eligible for a formal Time Away for Military Service. This policy provides a pathway for students who need to step away from their studies because of military obligations and return following their service.

Dartmouth Undergraduate Veterans Association (DUVA)
The Dartmouth Undergraduate Veterans Association is an official student organization that brings together Dartmouth's undergraduate veteran community.
DUVA creates opportunities for community, leadership, service, and connection and plays an important role in campus traditions and programs recognizing military service.
Storytelling Program
Since 2020, Dartmouth's undergraduate veterans have gathered each fall for a weekend centered on storytelling, reflection, service, and community.
Through hiking, volunteering, shared meals, and facilitated conversations, students have an opportunity to step away from the pace of the term, learn from one another, and build connections across class years.

Memorial Day
Each Memorial Day, Dartmouth's undergraduate veterans lead a campus observance honoring Dartmouth students and alumni who lost their lives in American conflicts.
Hundreds of American flags placed in front of Dartmouth Hall create a visual remembrance of those members of the Dartmouth community.

Each November, Dartmouth recognizes the service and contributions of veterans throughout the Dartmouth community.

Warrior-Scholar Project
Dartmouth hosts the Warrior-Scholar Project, bringing veterans to campus for an intensive academic experience designed to help prepare participants for the transition from military service to higher education.
